Let the Rebuilding Begin on Auburn Hills

A new owner. Same Joe D. No more Johnny Kue.

Let the rebuilding for a championship begin. This past week saw the most "positive" developments in Detroit in recent history. Tome Gores was finally introduced as the new owner, freeing up the hands of Joe Dumars to come up with a plan to bring the Pistons back to NBA elite level. A few days after, unsuccessful two-year coach John Kuester was let go.

The Detroit Pistons are now primed to start the team from scratch.
The team has young players in Greg Monroe, Austin Daye, and Jonas Jerebko around whom they might be able to build. They have the eighth pick in the June 23 draft, which can be turned into a defensive-minded center (Bismack Biyombo), or a guard with championship pedigree (Kemba Walker). Now if they can convince Rodney Stuckey, Rip Hamilton, Ben Gordon, and Charlie Villanueva to play the way they're supposed to play, and get some good free agents to fill some other roster details, the Pistons might just be on the way to reliving the high times of the turn of the century.

More sure than not, Tayshaun is going to leave through free agency. Stuckey might also be offered more money than Dumars might be willing to offer him. And Rip might just be traded because of the bad blood he brought to the team the past season. It would be difficult to see these three players go. But I don't think that Dumars should wait out too long or overvalue them to keep them with Detroit.

I actually also think that Gordon and Villanueva should be shopped. They both just never really played as advertised. Gordon never got his shot off, and Villanueva is just too inconsistent.

All I can say is that the future seems to be looking up for my favorite NBA team.
